MEET THE TEAM

Chasity Shelton is the founder and lead therapist of Beyond The Surface Counseling & Consulting. She’s a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a Certified Clinical Social Work Supervisor offering mentorship and supervision to limited licensed and newly full-licensed therapists. Originally from Detroit, MI, Mrs. Shelton returned to the Metro Detroit area after earning her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University in 2009 and Masters in Social Work from University of Pittsburgh in 2011. She has experience in several settings including child-welfare, home-based and outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient psychiatric and private practice.

As a clinical therapist, Mrs. Shelton’s therapeutic approach focuses on the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit while complementing evidence-based practices. Her outlook to building a strong therapeutic relationship is intersectional; highlighting cultural and social identities and life experiences that shape the whole being. She aims to maintain a balance of being warm but direct, supportive yet challenging, gentle and honest. Her goal is to foster a non-judgmental, safe and open space where the base of help is genuine and compassionate. She specializes in finding peace within the storm and helping you gain more insight about self to heal more deeply.

Chasity enjoys being a mother to her active and charismatic daughter, a wife of 11 years to her supportive husband, a dog mom and traveling.
